Kajsa Ekis Ekman sense of how a transsexual man appropriates the women's rights issue has created infected discussions about trans rights and trans-phobia within feminism. There has emerged a confused discussion if it is even possible to appropriate a gender identity experiences. I think purely personal that it's impossible because the argument itself risks being transphobic. By saying that a trans woman appropriates a gender identity, a position or feminism says a also a trans woman can never be a "real woman". To even question a person's gender identity or transgender experience is wrong, it can only be the person themselves decide how society than reading people's duster gender identity.
But let us discuss how appropriering can work outside our cissexistiska society. The concept appropiering comes from "cultural Appropriation" whereby a dominant, privileged group adopt or utilize one or more elements of a minority culture. Often applied duster the concept of racism so that when white, privileged Westerners use "fancy dress" similar indigenous peoples. In other words, the concept much about power. A dominant group can exploit various forms of cultural elements such as clothing, language, music, etc. while they are not exposed to the risks, restricted rights, harassment and violations of cultural minority does. A white Westerner will have a plumage to become "smart casual" while a person from the Native American people have been subjected duster to genocide and abuse of their cultural affiliation. duster
This also affects how cis people appropriates the trans and queer people's rights. This may include examples of how cis-dudes make up with glitter and jewels on an "ironic" way and is just the right bit queerposöriga while trans and queer people who do so are taken away their rights. The latest example is the film Dallas Buyers Club where lead actor Jared Leto won an oscar for hens portrayal of trans woman Rayon. Although the role is about a trans woman elected director to consciously choose a cis man to play the role. In an interview becomes Jared Leto questioned by an audience member who pointed it transfoba in a cis person is allowed to play a trans woman where the hen at all do not seem to understand the criticism or how power works. When hen won the oscar statuette was not a word about trans rights in the U.S., about communities, movements and activists fighting daily to not be murdered, attacked, or discriminatory.
This is a clear example of appropriering where cissexistiska society duster can utilize transgender experience without the risk of being subjected to the discrimination that transgender people are exposed to daily. For a cis person is a role, no one can DON and take off, a role that may result in espousal trial and golden statuettes while the real actors, transgender, duster again fall by the wayside. In other words, it is possible to write a script and produce an expensive Hollywood movie where the stories are based on a trans person's experience, but it's impossible to actually let a person with similar experiences have turned that role.
It is as if Jared Leto is the acting version duster of Macklemore duster doing the same approrpiering of black and queer culture duster in the music world. The question is why we do not discuss this form of appropriering where we recognize trans and queer people of our rights rather than to discredit duster us and question our gender identities. This form of appropriering obscure the real actors where cisnormen remains intact and earn money and status at the expense of already vulnerable bodies.
